Life on the Edge: An Entrepreneur’s Story of Survival during COVID-19
Life on the Edge is my story about surviving COVID-19 as an entrepreneur and small business owner outside of Philadelphia. I started documenting the happenings of each day about two weeks into lock down so that when I look back on this time I will be able to remember it for exactly what it is.
My goal with Life on the Edge is to provide an inside look into a small business struggling to survive, my first major crisis as a leader, and ultimately the process of saving a small company during a global disaster. I hope that by sharing my experience I might help other entrepreneurs and business owners during this time.
In Episode 21, I share the both the ups and the downs from the day. It is common these days to go through a roller coaster of emotions within the same day, as things are changing so rapidly. I'm glad I decided to video document this experience because you can see in my body language the difference between the morning and the afternoon; you can see the emotions, you can see how strongly I feel them.
One of the things that I have worked on in my leadership journey is not getting too high or too low; it's necessary to feel emotions, but emotions can be detrimental if you let them take over and start guiding action and decision making. So I've learned to feel the emotions and then to let them go, but I will tell you that it is hard to do that right now. That said, I always refocus on our outcome - surviving and then thriving - and bring myself back to center so that i can be the leader I need to be to guide us to the promised land.
